Ju Jutsu is the Japanese martial art of the Samurai. It is practiced by military, law enforcement & security agencies all over the world. It is the father of all the Japanese martial arts, including Judo, Aikido, Ninjutsu, etc.
Its name "Ju Jutsu", sometimes spelt: Ju Jitsu, Jiu Jiutsu, Jiu Jutsu, etc. translates from two Japanese words: Ju, meaning "gentle, or pliant" & Jutsu, meaning "art, or artifice".
Ju Jutsu is most often referred to as the "gentle art" because through giving way to an attacking force (rather than opposing it), the practitioner's response to a violent attack may appear gentle by comparison.
Ju Jutsu, purely in its modern practical application, is an art of self-defence. It is entirely reflexive, and related to defence against an unprovoked attack. Using Ju Jutsu, an unjust and violent attack may be neutralised swiftly and cleanly with demonstrable control over all aspects of the encounter, so that effective self-defence is possible without the necessity for inflicting serious injury.
Ju Jutsu, at its highest level, allows the practitioner to defend without actually appearing to do so.

The Earth School is a descendant of the Southern Cross Method, pioneered by one of the first non-Japanese ever to be graded to 12th Dan Grand Master - Prof. W.C.Brown. The School is now headed by Shihan Harry J. Baker , 7th Dan, a student of the late Prof. Brown. The Chief Instructor is Fred Power Yon Dan (4th Dan).
For many years, the Earth School was closed to the general public, focusing solely on furthering the knowledge & skill of its existing members. Until 1988, when Master Seach began accepting membership applications, entry to the school was by invitation only.
The Earth School of Ju Jutsu is currently accepting applications for new memberships. For information on how to become a member of the Earth School of Ju Jutsu, please see our how to join page
The Earth School does not teach techniques. Rather, we teach the principles of battle. The four main principles include Safety, Balance, Counter & Awareness, & we operate under the guiding principle of "Give Way to Conquer". Giving way to an attacking force (rather than opposing it, as in most martial arts) allows the defender to cleanly evade the enemy's attack, placing them outside the situation. Once outside, the defender is no longer subject to the attack, & is therefore, safe. Safety is the primary objective.
As opposed to techniques which can only be applied in situations similar to those in which they were learned, using the principles, the practitioner is able to dynamically create responses to any situation, on-the-fly.
Unlike most Ju Jutsu schools, the Earth School does not focus on one or two facets of Ju Jutsu, such as wristlocks or grappling. The Earth School maintains the bushido traditions by teaching all the battlefield arts.
The Earth School is an integral member of the Australian Ju Jitsu Association, Inc, which has links to the World Ju Jitsu Federation.

The Earth School does not teach techniques. Rather, we teach the principles of battle. With an understanding of the principles, the practitioner is able to dynamically create defences as they are required.
Therefore, instead of practicing defences to specific attacks, students are presented with various types of attack, and examine methods of defence which obey the principles. This provides the ability to defend against all variations of attack, rather than just specific cases.
The format of each class varies according to teaching plans, upcoming events and individual or group requirements. In any case, students do not march up and down practicing repetitive actions. The Earth School is a non-contact school.
