Mob and Mass Attacks

A Mob attack is defined as any attack (physical or otherwise) by a group of between 2 and 10 people. A Mass attack is by more than 10 people.

As far as the Earth School of Ju Jutsu is concerned, mob and mass attacks are conducted by a highly skilled and motivated group of individuals functioning as a cohesive unit. These attacks may be armed or unarmed.

Although many schools regularly practice multi-man combat, the attackers rarely attack in unison. Even in the movies, the hero defeats the mob because they all attack in sequence - not all at the same time. The Earth School is one of only 3 schools in the world who routinely practice defences to large numbers of simultaneous attackers.

The Earth School practices mob and mass attacks in combinations of the following ways:

Situations

Wb00955_.gif (961 bytes) In open areas, such as an open field (on even and uneven terrain).
Wb00955_.gif (961 bytes) In confined spaces, such as a room.
Wb00955_.gif (961 bytes) In small or narrow areas, such as a hallway.
Wb00955_.gif (961 bytes) In dark areas.

Scenarios

Wb00955_.gif (961 bytes) Intense, where the attackers’ sole intention is to kill the defender.
Wb00955_.gif (961 bytes) Intimidations, where the attackers taunt and attempt to flank the defender prior to attack.
Wb00955_.gif (961 bytes) Known surprise, where the attackers may or may not suddenly attack after pretending to be friendly.
Wb00955_.gif (961 bytes) Unknown surprise, where the defender is attacked en-masse without warning.
Wb00955_.gif (961 bytes) Defensive, where the defender must protect a third person.

Intensity

Intensity is a measure of how determined the attackers are.

Wb00955_.gif (961 bytes) Low.
Wb00955_.gif (961 bytes) Medium.
Wb00955_.gif (961 bytes) High.

Attack Formations

Wb00955_.gif (961 bytes) A straight line, from left-to-right, forming a battle front.
Wb00955_.gif (961 bytes) A straight line, one-behind-the-other.
Wb00955_.gif (961 bytes) A mobile circle or semi-circle, where the attackers surround or flank the defender.
Wb00955_.gif (961 bytes) A small static circle, where the attackers have surrounded the defender, are within range, and are already prepared to strike. This formation is limited to 6, since that is the maximum number that can physically fit around the defender at such close range.
Wb00955_.gif (961 bytes) An arrow-head ( /\ ).
Wb00955_.gif (961 bytes) Any formation with one or more breakaways. A breakaway is an attacker who "breaks out" from the rest of the group, and operates independently from them.
Wb00955_.gif (961 bytes) No formation, or any combination of formations.

Arms

Wb00955_.gif (961 bytes) One, several or all attackers armed with a variety of hand weapons.
Wb00955_.gif (961 bytes) The defender may be armed or unarmed.

Mode

Wb00955_.gif (961 bytes) Simultaneous attacks, where all attackers attack at the same time.
Wb00955_.gif (961 bytes) Sequential attacks, where the attackers attack one-after-another, in quick succession.
Wb00955_.gif (961 bytes) Attack waves, where the attackers attack in smaller groups, one after the other.
Wb00955_.gif (961 bytes) Multi-group, where the attackers attack in smaller groups, simultaneously.
Wb00955_.gif (961 bytes) Uncommitted - any combination of the above.
